Three years old Muhammad Shahzaib suffers from Distal Penile Hypospadias. It is a condition in which the opening of the urethra is at an abnormal location instead of at the tip. To treat this condition, the doctor has advised Muhammad Shahzaib to undergo a Urethroplasty. Urethroplasty is an open surgical reconstruction of the urethra. Without this surgery, Muhammad Shahzaib won’t ever get to live a normal life like other children.

Unfortunately, Muhammad Shahzaib’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of the surgery. His father is the sole earner of the family. He works as a manual laborer with a construction company on daily wages. Despite long hours and hectic work, he hardly manages to earn PKR 15,000 per month. In this measly income, it is entirely impossible for him to save up for his son’s surgery. He told us:

Muhammad Shahzaib's Story

Muhammad Shahzaib, a vibrant four-year-old, has faced significant medical challenges since birth. He was born with a congenital condition known as Distal Penile Hypospadias, where the opening of his urethra is not located at the usual site. This abnormality led to considerable difficulty and abnormal urination, affecting his daily life and development. The severity of his condition required prompt medical intervention to correct the anatomical defect and improve his quality of life. Medical experts recommended a procedure called tubular incised plate urethroplasty to address Muhammad's condition. This surgery is designed to create a new urethral opening at the correct site, thus normalizing urination and preventing future complications. Understanding the urgency and importance of the surgery, Muhammad Shahzaib was admitted to Akram Medical Complex for the necessary treatment. On the 3rd of July, 2021, Dr. Bilal Mirza, a skilled and experienced surgeon, performed the tubular incised plate urethroplasty. The operation aimed to reconstruct the urethra and ensure a more typical urinary function for Muhammad. The procedure was a meticulous and delicate one, requiring precision and expertise to achieve the desired outcome. Following the surgery, Muhammad Shahzaib was closely monitored to ensure his recovery progressed smoothly. He remained under the care of the hospital staff for five days, during which time his condition was carefully observed, and necessary postoperative care was provided. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Dr. Bilal Mirza and the medical team at Akram Medical Complex, Muhammad's surgery was successful. Muhammad was discharged from the hospital in a satisfactory condition, with his health significantly improved. The successful completion of this surgery marks a new chapter for Muhammad Shahzaib, offering him a chance at a normal and healthy childhood.
