Sonia Ahmed, a 43-year-old resident of Lahore, has been living through immense pain for the last two years. She has been experiencing pain in her pelvic region as well as irregular menstrual bleeding. Upon consultation and after going through a series of diagnostic tests and Ultrasound scans, Sonia has been diagnosed with Fibroid Uterus. Women who experience late-onset menopause have an increased risk of uterine/endometrial cancer. This is due to having an increased exposure to hormones such as estrogen. The doctor has advised Sonia to undergo a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH) in order to be cured. Total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) is the removal of the uterus and cervix through an abdominal incision which is done under anesthesia.

Sonia lives with her husband in a joint family of six. Her husband is the only breadwinner of the family and works as a painter. He earns a meager income of PKR 20,000 per month. It is difficult for him to afford the cost of his wife’s procedure. He shared his distress with us in the following manner:

“I always wanted to give my wife every comfort in the world. But now I’m not even able to give her the treatment she needs. It shatters my heart. I am drowning deep in this well of helplessness. Please, whoever is reading this, help us.”

Sonia Ahmed, a 43-year-old resident of Lahore, had been suffering from Irregular Menstrual Bleeding for the last two years. She was advised to undergo Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. Unfortunately, Sonia could not afford it. She found out about Transparent Hands and contacted us. We sent Sonia to Akram Medical Complex to get her surgery done by Dr. Asia Nasir on 26-02-2022. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. Sonia is now regaining her health.
