Tehmina Bibi's Story

6-year-old little girl named Tehmina Bibi is suffering from a heart disease. She lives in Sargodha with her parents in a joint family system. She did not know she had a problem in the beginning, as she did not experience any symptoms that would indicate any kind of problem. So, initially her condition did not get any attention. However, poor Tehmina started experiencing shortness of breath and weakness after physical exertion. The little girl’s growth also stopped. Worried about what was happening to their daughter, her parents took her to a doctor and they diagnosed her with PDA.

PDA stands for Patent Ductus Arteriosus and Tehmina seems to have been affected by a moderate PDA condition. It basically refers to an opening between two major blood vessels leading from the heart. This opening usually closes shortly after birth. But, in Tehmina’s case that did not happen and so the parents of this little girl were advised to get her admitted into a private facility for her proper treatment. You see, Tehmina needs PDA device occlusion through angiography to fix her problem. The doctors will use a small device to close the opening in her heart.

What she needs now, is financial help as her father is a laborer. He earns only 18,000 PKR per month and cannot afford her expensive medical treatment. He says:

“I love my daughter. I would do anything for her. I don’t have the money to relieve her of this pain but I am given hope that it can be fixed. My daughter can be treated. People have told me about this procedure can treat the pain in her heart. I do not know how it works but apparently, it is a safe procedure and is effective. I am glad my little doll can be helped”
