Waqas Ahmad's Story

Waqas Ahmad, 20 years old, underwent a terrible accident about 6 months ago. He was treated at Nishtar hospital after this awful incident. The surgery he was subjected to involved application of an external fixator in his leg to treat the compound fracture. But unfortunately, it did not help him and resulted in infective non union of his fracture. What Waqas was recommended at this stage was an Ilizarov fixation for proper healing of his bone. This was suggested by an orthopedic specialist at Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust Hospital. This treatment costs a hefty amount and Waqas’s father cannot afford to pay for it. He is only a driver and gets paid 15,000 rupees a month. On a family friend’s suggestion, they contacted us and we have taken up their case.

However, while waiting for his planned procedure, Waqas visited the doctor again who, after re evaluation, changed the plan of fixation to below knee amputation because the infection had started to spread to the whole of his leg. So now, the advised procedure for his treatment is below knee amputation.

“I can’t believe that it has been 6 months and I am still in so much pain. I thought I would be perfectly fine after the initial surgery but sadly, I was wrong. Now, this doctor has told me that I need another kind of treatment. If that can fix my problem, I would be so grateful. I mean, I have my whole life ahead of me. I just hope I can get the money for it, it would definitely be a blessing!”– Waqas Ahmad

Waqas is not mistaken about hoping to heal soon as the amputation will stop the spread of infection to the rest of his body. The only thing that stands in his way is the money. So, make sure to donate as much as you can for his surgery. All his hopes are resting on you guys!

Waqas Ahmad's Story

Waqas Ahmad, 20 years old, sustained a leg injury after an accident. He was operated but did not recover well. On further medical check-up, he was diagnosed with an infected sequestrated bone and was advised surgical intervention. For this purpose, Waqas was admitted in Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Hospital and a revised plan of surgery was made based upon his severe infection which had spread beyond the site of origin. His leg was not salvageable, so his right below knee amputation was performed using Guillotine method by Dr. Muhammad Adeel Razzaq on 09.12.2020. He stayed in the hospital for seven days and was discharged in a stable condition. He is slowly recovering from his surgery.
