Kausar Parveen's Story

The room was filled with the gagging sound of vomiting. The noise continued but was now accompanied by coughing. The frail hands of Kausar Parveen emerged from the bathroom door and her weak body settled itself in the room. She was shivering from pain and sweating from her fever, and her little grand children were worried for their grandmother but also used to her being sick all the time now. She looked up with sad eyes, knowing that she couldn’t do much to relieve her pain.

Kausar Parveen is 55 years old lady who has been suffering from Cholelithiasis, a condition in which gallstones are formed and are almost always occurring without any diagnostic symptoms. Already sick from hepatitis, Kausar did not give much thought to her continuous abdominal pain, but when her condition worsened further, she set out to seek help. She went from door to door but nobody offered her any help.

She is suffering from Gallstone disease and is a chronic patient of hepatitis too. Her daily routine includes severe and consistent abdominal pain, frequent fevers which are always paired with a weak digestive system. She feels tired of living in this condition and vomiting all day.

She has 5 married children but all are too busy in their own lives to even think about their mother and a younger brother. Kausar Parveen’s younger son had to move to Lahore to earn for his family. Kausar lives with her son, her daughter-in-law and their four little children; in a tiny house with only one bedroom. Her son barely earns ten thousand rupees per month, which is not enough to make ends meet. After finding out about his mother’s condition, he tried his best to provide her required treatment, but all went in vain due to their poor financial condition.
