Malaika Firyad's Story

Malaika wants to return to school but her disease is not allowing her to even go out.

Malaika is a 9 years old girl who lives in a small house in Kasur with her parents and 4 siblings. Malaika was a student of class 2 but she had to stop her studies due to her disease. Malaika was diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease when she was little. She underwent her first surgery at a local hospital where doctor opened a colon on her abdomen for stool passage. Doctor advised her parents that she has to undergo another surgery to close the colon and to make permanent stool passage.

Malaika is unable to go out due to hygiene issues and bad odor. She also feels discomfort due to her colostomy. Her parents contacted the same hospital for second surgery but they are giving her time after few years. Malaika cannot wait for many years. She often cries due to her pain. She wants to go back to her school but she is afraid that her friends will make fun of her due to her disease. Her parents are very worried for her health. They cannot afford to treat her from a private hospital. Her father works as a labourer and earns around 15,000 rupees a month. This family hardly manages to make both ends meet in such meager income. Finally, somebody told them about Transparent Hands and they immediately came here.
