Muhammad Atif Zaka's Story
“No matter how many children I have, each of them is equally beloved to me. Like my other kids, I want to see Atif lead a healthy and normal life. I need your help for treatment of my dear son.” – Atif’s father.
At the age of 3.6 years, Atif got abdominal pain and distention. His parents took him to a hospital in Lahore. There he was diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) – a severe condition causing blockage in the intestine – and underwent colostomy procedure on the advice of doctors.
6 years old Atif, has trouble maintaining his cleanliness and is unable to live a normal life. He also has a very troubled social life due to poor hygiene.
Atif’s father works as a loader/ driver in different factories and earns 30,000 PKR per month. He has 8 children; 6 sons and 2 daughters. 4 of the children are school going, 2 elder sons work to bear the financial burden, whereas Atif and the youngest 3 year old son remain at home. The rent of their house is Rs 8000 per month and they are struggling hard to make ends meet.
A local hospital had scheduled Atif for further treatment. For the last 2 years, Atif’s parents are trying to get him treated, but the hospital is giving no response. Finally, someone recommended Transparent Hands and Atif’s father rushed for help.
