Abdul Rehman's Story

Abdul Rehman, aged 10, suffers from a congenital heart condition known as an atrial septal defect. There is a large hole in the wall between the upper two chambers of his heart that needs a PDA device closure. His parents discovered his disease just 8 months ago and have faced trouble getting treatment since then.

“He runs out of breath really easily so we got him checked up. It was devastating to discover that there is a problem with his heart at such a young age. To seek treatment, we visited several hospitals in Faisalabad first. Due to complications in the case, we were advised to seek treatment in Lahore but the local hospitals there kept delaying our appointment. We cannot take him to a private hospital because the cost of a heart surgery there would be sky high. We require urgent help to save Abdul Rehman’s life.” – Abdul Rehman’s father, Muhammad Anwar.

Abdul Rehman, the youngest of the children in the family, is the only one getting an education. He studies in the 4^th grade. He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Due to the family’s large size, their total income of 25000 rupees is inadequate to meet daily needs. Muhammad Anwar sells fruits on his cycle and earns 12000 PKR per month, whereas his eldest brother runs a rented tuck shop near their residence and brings in nearly 13000 PKR per month. They live in a small house in Sheikhupura.

Abdul Rehman’s PDA Device Closure is not affordable for this family. A doctor’s recommendation brought them to transparent hands to seek help.

Abdul Rehman's Story

Abdul Rehman, 12 years old, was suffering from bluish discoloration of his skin. He was diagnosed to have restrictive patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). He was advised device occlusion of PDA to prevent his cyanotic spells. Abdul's procedure was done in Ittefaq Hospital, by Dr. Najam Haider, on 17-02-20. He was managed well and discharged in a stable condition after one day of hospital stay.
