My pregnancies have always been uncomfortable and complicated which is why I cannot deliver naturally either. And it all just becomes worse with all this added stress of arranging money for my operation.” – Abida Parvin

Abida Parvin, 35 years old, is expecting her third baby. She has two daughters who were both delivered through C-sections due to complicated labor. This time as well, Abida is going through some complications because of which it is possible for her to lose her baby if she does not have a C-section.

Abida lives with her husband and daughters in a small house granted by her parents-in-law. Her husband is a farmer for a landowner and gets a very small portion of the total profit from the crops after every six months. This brings his monthly income to around 5000 PKR which isn’t even enough to put two meals on the table, let alone pay for Abida’s surgery. The cost of her first two surgeries were covered because she and her husband borrowed money from their parents but this time, they do not have that option.
