Ahmad Ahsan's Story

“I miss my school life. I miss playing cricket with my friends the most. The doctor has told me not to play as it turns my skin blue. I wish I could get back to school again like my brothers but I’ve to wait until I undergo heart surgery. I often see my mother crying when she talks to my father on the phone and I know it’s because of my health. My doctor told me I’ll be fine soon after surgery but my parents don’t have money to treat me.” – Ahmad

7 years old Ahmad is suffering from a congenital heart condition (Coarctation of Aorta – narrowing of major blood vessels coming out of heart). He was diagnosed with this disease last year when he complained of severe chest pain and shortness of breath.

The doctor has advised his parents to prepare him for Open Heart Surgery as soon as possible as he is already late in getting the required treatment. Without surgery, Ahmad is at risk of losing his life. Ahmad’s poor father is unable to afford his treatment. He works as a laborer in another city and earns only 7,000 PKR a month. It’s nearly impossible for him to arrange money for his son’s expensive surgery. In addition to their increasing difficulties, Ahmad is diagnosed with Chronic Tonsillitis. They approached various hospitals and NGOs for help and that’s when they came across Transparent Hands.

Ahmad Ahsan's Story

Ahmad Ahsan, 7 years old, was experiencing recurrent episodes of sore throat. He was diagnosed with coarctation of aorta (CoA) and chronic tonsillitis. His CoA repair was advised after open heart surgery. His heart surgery was done at Ittefaq Hospital through Pakistan Children Heart Foundation on 07-12-19, by Dr Salman A Shah. He had good post op recovery and stayed for 3 days in the hospital. He was discharged with stable vitals and in a satisfactory condition.
