Ahram Mustafa's Story

5-year-old Ahram Mustafa’s mother noticed swelling in his scrotal region while helping him change his clothes. She immediately took him to a doctor in a nearby local clinic. On examination, the doctor diagnosed his condition as a hydrocele on the right side. It is a type of swelling in the scrotum. It occurs because of collection of fluid in the thin sheath that surrounds a testicle. The doctor referred his case to a surgeon who advised herniotomy for the treatment of hydrocele. In this procedure, the surgeon makes a small cut in the fold of the groin. After that, the fluid is drained and the sac removed which holds the fluid.

The problem, at hand, is that a surgical procedure would cost too much. Ahram’s mother is a divorcee and works as a helper in a private clinic. She is the sole breadwinner of the family and earns only PKR 8000 per month. Her salary is barely enough to bear the monthly expenses and school fees of her two sons.

She shared her difficult situation with a colleague at the clinic, where she works, who told her all about our organization. Desperate for help, she contacted our team and we reviewed and registered her son’s case.

“It is difficult being a single mother. I work at the clinic in the morning and then wash dishes in three houses in the evening. I am not able to spend time with my children like I want to.”– Ahram’s mother.

Ahram Mustafa's Story

Ahram Mustafa, 5 years old, had swelling in the right side of the scrotum. He was diagnosed with a hydrocele (when fluid collects in the thin sheath surrounding the male genital). He was advised to get a surgery called hernioplasty. For this purpose, Ahram was admitted in Lahore Care Hospital on 12-12-2020 and his surgery was performed by Dr. M. Bilal Mirza on the same day. He remained admitted in the hospital for three days during which he recovered well and was later discharged in a good and stable condition.
