Alis Khan's Story

Alis Khan, 63 years old, has been suffering from pain in both his knees for the last 3 years. The pain kept getting worse and his knees became swollen as well. Without paying much attention to his current state, Alis continued with his daily routine and drove a car all day. With time, the pain kept on increasing which forced him to stop working completely.

Wanting his pain to end, Alis Khan eventually visited a hospital where the doctor examined and found bilateral crepitus on both of his knee joints. He conducted an x-ray and diagnosed that he has bilateral knee osteoarthritis of grade IV in which the joint space between bones of his knees is dramatically reduced, leaving the joint stiff and possibly immobile. He told Alis Khan that the only solution to his condition was to get a total knee replacement surgery of his right knee.

Alis Khan knew he couldn’t afford the surgery and returned home completely disheartened. He works as a driver and hardly earns PKR 8000 a month which is not enough to support his family. His wife and kids live in a 3 marla house with him that was given to him by his parents. Alis Khan's Story

63-year-old Alis Khan was diagnosed with bilateral knee osteoarthritis. The orthopedic surgeon advised a bilateral knee replacement surgery for him (right side first). He was admitted in Irfan General Hospital and the surgery was performed by Dr. Akhtar Hussain on 25.10.2020. Alis stayed in the hospital for six days and was discharged in a stable condition. His healing period post-surgery will end soon and Alis looks forward to walking without pain in his knee joint. “My knees hurt whenever I walked or got up after sitting down.
