Asad Khan's Story

4 years old Asad Khan is suffering from Distal Penile Hypospadias. Distal Penile Hypospadias is a congenital abnormality where the meatus (external urethral orifice) is not at the tip of the penis. Instead, it may be located anywhere along the underside of the penis. This abnormality distorts the urinary stream making urination a troublesome process.

The doctors have advised a Meatoplasty for Asad Khan – a surgical procedure in which the opening end of a child’s urethra is surgically opened and the edges are stitched together.

Asad Khan belongs to a lower socioeconomic class. His father runs a small fritter stall in their locality. His stall is located at the outskirts of a small urban slum. An area where everyone is deeply drowned in financial distress. Stopping to buy a fritter or two is the least of their concerns. Therefore, Asad Khan’s father does not make much sales and hardly earns PKR 13000 per month. His monthly income is barely enough to keep the household running and he is in no position to bear the financial stress of his son’s surgery.
