He was born with a disease that didn’t allow him to go out and play with his friends or have the normal life of a kid, but that isn’t his fault. Why does he have to suffer. It hurts me when I see him suffering and it feels even worse that I cannot do anything about it.” – Faizan’s mother

Faizan Ali, 5 years old, is suffering from a defect since birth. He was diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease, a condition that affects the large intestine (colon) and causes problems while passing stool. The condition is a result of missing nerve cells in the muscle layer of the baby’s colon.

His first surgery, a colostomy, was done right after his birth, in which a stoma bag was placed on his abdomen for bodily waste. The doctor recommended another surgery to bypass and remove the affected colon and make his stool passage functional. Faizan’s parents have contacted a few hospitals many times for this surgery but have been refused due to their financial background. His works as a laborer and hardly earns 25,000 PKR a month. Living in a joint family of 23 people for which he is also partially financially responsible, it is very difficult for Faizan’s father to make both ends meet. He cannot afford the expenses of his son’s surgery and wishes to seek the help of Transparent Hands.

Faizan Ali, 5 years old, had his colostomy done right after birth. Later he was diagnosed to be suffering from Hirschsprung’s disease - is a condition that affects the large intestine (colon) and causes problems with passing stool. He was advised surgery to restore the continuity of his intestine. His surgery was done on 04-09-2020 by Dr. Naeem Liaqat at Maryam Memorial Hospital. He performed Swenson’s pull through anorectoplasty. The patient remained admitted in the hospital for five days after his surgery and was discharged in good health. Faizan Ali has now resumed a normal life, just like other children his age.
