Farzandan Maqbool's Story
Farzandan Maqbool, 40 years old, was diagnosed with hepatitis C five years ago. She visited her local hospital for treatment and was given medication. However, even after several months’ use, she did not get better. Unable to afford consultation at a private hospital, Farzandan continued using the medicines that provided no relief. Then recently, she came across a Transparent Hands medical camp and registered her case for free treatment.
“I have been carrying this disease in me for five years. I am always afraid my children or my husband would catch it from me because it is contagious. My husband is already so sick, he cannot afford another disease. I just want to get treated as soon as possible so that I don’t have to be so afraid all the time of what will happen to me or my family.” – Farzandan
Farzandan lives with her husband in her mother’s house in Lahore as she and her husband do not own a house of their own. Her husband is unable to work due to paralysis so she and her elder son are the family’s breadwinners. Her elder son works as an office boy at a bank and earns 20,000 PKR a month. Farzandan herself is paid 7000 PKR monthly as a housemaid. Their total income is responsible for 6 family members which include Farzandan, her mother, her husband, and their three children. With so many people to look after, she cannot afford her treatment on her own.
Farzandan has requested your help in getting better. With financial assistance from you, she can finally be free from her ailment.
