Fatima Zahid's Story
Fatima Zahid, 4.5 years old, was born with a type of congenital anorectal disorder- a rectovestibular fistula. Her first surgery, a colostomy, was done when she was 7 months old. Following that, her family contacted several hospitals for her PSARP surgery but to no avail. Fatima’s PSARP surgery was finally carried out through Transparent Hands in November 2018. Now, she is ready for her final surgery- a colostomy closure.
Fatima’s father, Zahid Iqbal, has been trying to arrange for his daughter’s colostomy closure for the past year but hasn’t had any luck so far. He cannot take her to a private hospital because the medical expenses there are out of his reach. He earns only 14,000 PKR a month working as a daily wage laborer and has to support his wife, his sister and 5 children with this meager amount. Zahid has once again asked Transparent Hands for support.
“Fatima is almost five and hasn’t started school. She has a stool bag attached to her tummy and whenever she goes out, children make fun of her. This is why we are waiting to get her admitted to school until after her operation, but it keeps getting delayed. Transparent Hands came to our aid once before, when we felt like we had nowhere to take our daughter. Once again, we are in that position. So many people were kind enough to help Fatima last time. Fatima Zahid's Story
Fatima Zahid, 4 years old, was suffering from anorectal malformation (ARM) resulting in an abnormal back passage opening into genitalia. Her temporary colostomy and anterior sagittal anorectoplasty (ASARP) were done successfully through Transparent Hands. Now, she was advised a colostomy closure. Her surgery was done in Akram Medical Complex, on 02-05-20, by Dr Naveed Haider. She stayed for four days in the hospital with good post-operative recovery and was discharged in a healthy condition.
