Gulab Din's Story
77-year-old Gulab Din started losing his eyesight a year ago. When his vision got too blurry and he could not see properly anymore, his wife took him to a doctor. His condition was diagnosed as bilateral age related cataract. The doctor advised a surgery called cataract extraction with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation for correction of his vision. IOL implants refer to artificial lenses and they help in clearing up the vision after the cataract surgery.
Gulab Din’s health does not allow him to work. He has seven children. All of them are married and live independently. He lives with his wife and they manage their expenses within the 5000 PKR per month that their children send them. In this small amount, he cannot afford the surgery.
“My blurry vision is becoming a problem for me and my wife since we live alone. We have to do all the household chores ourselves. My wife is also very weak now. If I lose my sight, I do not know how we will survive.”– Gulab Din
Seeing their difficult situation, their neighbor told them about Transparent Hands. Gulab Din visited our office and got himself registered.

Gulab Din's Story
77-year-old Gulab Din’s vision started getting blurry a year ago. On medical consultation, he was diagnosed with bilateral age related cataract (ARC). The ophthalmologist advised cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation for the left eye first since its vision was more affected. For this purpose, Gulab was admitted in Ahmed Medical Complex and the procedure was performed by Dr. Muhammad Bilal on 12.12.2020. He stayed in the hospital for one day and was discharged in a stable condition. Post-surgery, his vision has cleared and the eyesight in the left eye has been restored.
