“The doctors have told us that without heart surgery, she won’t make it. I’ve no words to describe the pain my daughter is going through. She used to be a strong young girl but now she has given up all hopes. I’ve tried everything possible to treat her but even after all these struggles, we’re unable to arrange money for her surgery. I’ve failed my daughter. She used to look up to me with a hope in her eyes that her father would do anything to save her but I failed.”

Hajran Bibi is an 8 years old young and bright girl who was born with complex congenital heart disease (hole in her heart). She is also deaf since birth. Hajran was living a satisfactory life but all of a sudden, her heart condition deteriorated as she started to experience terrible symptoms like shortness of breath, rapid heartbeats and paleness. Her parents took her to a hospital where her angiography was done twice to check the condition of her heart.

The doctor recommended her to undergo heart surgery as soon as possible without which she may not survive. Her father took her to many private and local hospitals but they never gave a surgery date. He cannot afford to pay for his daughter’s expensive surgical treatment. Hajran’s father works as an Imam of a mosque and earns around 10,000 PKR a month. His family of 7 members is living in a small house in a miserable condition.

Hajran Bibi's Story

Hajran Bibi, 8 years old, had cyanosis and was unable to gain weight since birth. She was diagnosed with complex congenital heart disease. She was advised open heart surgery- a CP shunt to improve her circulation. Her surgery was done at Ittefaq Hospital through Pakistan Children Heart Foundation, on 23-11-19, by Dr. M Asim Khan. She had good post-op recovery and was discharged with stable vitals and in a satisfactory condition after 6 days of hospital stay.
