Husnain Azam's Story

“My son is barely three years old. He should be playing with friends, going to school, doing things a little kid does. But my son is unable to do anything like this. He suffers through the pain, and he cannot even take care of his own hygiene. God gifted him to us, but we cannot even provide him the proper treatment. Please help us; I cannot bear to see my child in such pain.” –Husnain’s mother.

Husnain Azam, 2.5 years-of-age is suffering from anorectal malformation – a defect in which the anus and rectum don’t develop properly since birth. He had his first surgery at a local hospital in Lahore when he was only one day old. This surgery was a temporary surgery. Husnain now needs another surgery to construct his back passage. He was supposed to receive his second surgery after the age of two, but it’s been a couple months now since his parents have been trying to get a surgery scheduled at a local hospital. The dates they have given are the end of next year.

Husnain’s parents cannot afford surgery from a private hospital and are trying their best to get their son admitted in a hospital for surgery but have been unsuccessful. Their little baby is suffering from loose motions and frequent fevers. He suffers from blisters around stoma as well and is unable to maintain his hygiene.

His father runs a cloth shop with his elder brother and manages to earn about PKR 27,000 every month. Husnain’s family lives hand to mouth with this income because his father has two marriages to support. He lives in a joint household with his mother, two wives and four children. Even if they go days without a meal, they will be unable to afford Husnain’s treatment.

After visiting several government hospitals for more than a hundred times, Husnain’s family almost gave up hope until someone referred them to Transparent Hands. Now, Husnain is scheduled for surgery and his family is waiting for you to reach out and help him.

Husnain Azam's Story

Husnain Azam, aged 3 years, was born with anorectal malformation (ARM). Colostomy was performed on the second day of his life and a stoma was placed. Later, on a follow up appointment, the consultants advised another surgery to correct his deformity. For this purpose, Husnain Azam was admitted to Akram Medical Complex and his Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty (PSARP) was performed by Dr. M. Bilal Mirza on 30.03.2021. He stayed in the hospital for five days and was discharged in a stable condition. Now during post-operative recovery. Husnain Azam looks forward to healing so he can reach the final step of the treatment.
