Maqsoodan Bibi's Story

Maqsoodan Bibi, 35 years old, is suffering from multinodular goiter for the past 6 years. Initially, the swelling in her thyroid was small but recently, the nodules have expanded causing uncomfortable symptoms. She feels difficulty breathing while lying down, has experienced weight loss and is fatigued most of the time.

“I have four children, all under the age of 10. They need their mother’s attention but these days, because of my thyroid condition, I am so tired all the time that I cannot tend to them properly. I hate that I am forced to neglect my children because of my illness.”- Maqsoodan Bibi talking to TH.

Maqsoodan Bibi went to many local hospitals for treatment but didn’t find permanent relief. The doctors have advised surgery- a subtotal thyroidectomy but her husband, Muhammad Akram, is not financially stable enough to pay for the costs. He is a brick mason who only earns 15,000 PKR a month and has 4 small children to support, along with his wife. Akram also has to pay for his own mother’s costly medication for joint pain. For Maqsooda’s surgery, he contacted a friend for help who informed him about Transparent Hands. Maqsooda and Akram immediately visited Transparent Hands to ask for assistance.

Maqsoodan Bibi's Story

Maqsoodan Bibi, 35 years old, was feeling swelling in front of her neck. She was diagnosed with multinodular goiter and was advised a subtotal thyroidectomy. Her operation was done in Lahore Care Hospital, by Dr. Ahmad Fawad, on 20-07-20. She was discharged in a good condition after 4 days of stay in the hospital.
