Muhammad Mazhar 's Story
Muhammad Mazhar, aged 42 years, suffered from intense throbbing pain in his anal region. He also observed swelling in that area. Furthermore, there was a discharge of blood and pus while he defecated. As these symptoms kept on aggravating, Mazhar got extremely worried since it was a painful condition and he was hesitant to share it with anyone. He consulted a local physician. On detailed workup, his condition was diagnosed as a perianal fistula because of which an abnormal connection had developed between his perianal skin and the anal canal. Initially, the doctor treated it as a perianal abscess. However, as the problem persisted, the doctor finally advised a fistulectomy for him. In this surgery, the surgeon excises the fistulous tract.
Though Mazhar wanted a permanent surgical solution to his endless suffering, he did not have the means to go through with it. His brother works as a shopkeeper and earns PKR 12,000 per month. He supports the entire family in this small amount. It is extremely difficult for them to manage all their expenses and, at the end of the day, they have nothing to save.
Mazhar talked to a friend about his financial constraints. His friend knew about our organization and guided Mazhar about the details of the registration process. He met with our patient coordinator and got himself registered. The whole experience was narrated by him in the following words:
“I have endured the pain for the last one year. I want nothing more than my suffering to end. However, I did not want to burden my brother any further. He was already kind enough to pay for all my tests and medicines. In these circumstances, the Transparent Hands team supported me and promised to conduct my surgery. They facilitated me in every way they could. I am very grateful.”

Muhammad Mazhar, aged forty two years, a resident of Lahore was presented with pain and discharge from the perianal region one year ago. He was diagnosed to have been suffering from Perianal Fistula. The doctor has now advised him to undergo Fistulectomy. For this purpose, Muhammad Mazhar was admitted to Lahore Care Hospital where his surgery was performed by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 16.08.2021. He stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition.
