Mehwish Tanzeem's Story

“When our first two kids were old enough, we moved from our hometown Okara to the big city of Lahore so that our kids could have access to the opportunities we didn’t have growing up. It was a difficult move. My husband and I both work but Lahore is so expensive that even our combined income wasn’t sufficient to meet the day to day expenses. Our rent alone exhausts half the income. Now we have a third child on the way and the delivery is only a month away but we haven’t even been able to arrange the money for my C-section.”- Mehwish

Mehwish Tanzeem, 37 years old, is pregnant with her third child. The doctors have advised her to deliver her child via a C-section to avoid complications. Mehwish and her husband are worried because the operation comes with medical costs that they cannot afford.

Mehwish’s husband, Tanzeem Abbas, drives a Rickshaw for over 12 hours a day. After factoring out the fuel costs, Tanzeem brings home around 12,000 PKR per month. Mehwish herself works as a housemaid and earns close to 8000 PKR a month. Out of their collective income, almost 6000 PKR are spent on renting a very small house. Despite all their hard work, their salary is not sufficient to support the family and they often have to rely on borrowing money from relatives to get through the month.

Mehwish Tanzeem's Story

Mehwish Tazeem, 37 years old, had her 4th pregnancy. She was advised a C-section due to 2 previous surgeries for child birth. Her C-section was done on 20-02-20, at Noor Medicare Hospital, by Dr Munnaza Malik. She was happy to give birth to a baby boy. She stayed for two days in the hospital and was discharged along with her healthy baby.
