Mubashira Riaz's Story

Mubashira Riaz, 31 years old, is expecting her second child and is 36 weeks along in her pregnancy. She has been advised a C-section to deliver her baby because normal labor could prove complicated for her. Mubashira luckily secured an appointment at a local hospital for her first delivery and was able to get the procedure done for free. This time around, she has not been able to get an appointment due to a long waitlist and needs to arrange the money to get the procedure done privately.

“When we realized that we won’t manage to get an appointment at our local hospital, we got a few quotes from private doctors. The cost they proposed is so high that I cannot save up for it even if I work over 15 hours a day. I had even thought about relocating to a smaller city to save up but my job is here. There is no guarantee I would find a job elsewhere.”– Mubashira’s husband, Muhammad Shahid

Muhammad Shahid works as a laborer in a factory. He is paid 15,000 PKR a month. 7000 PKR out of this meager salary is spent on renting a small house in Lahore. With just 8000 PKR a month, Shahid, his wife and child try to survive in the expensive city of Lahore. Most often, the money runs out by the middle of the month and he has to pick up extra shifts to make it through. In this dire financial situation, he cannot afford to pay the cost of his wife’s C-section.

Mubashira Riaz's Story

Mubashira Riaz, 31 years old, had her 2nd pregnancy. She was advised C-section due to previous surgery for child birth. Her C-section was done on 11-02-20, at Noor Medicare Hospital, by Dr Munnaza Malik. She was happy to give birth to a baby boy. She stayed for two days in the hospital and was discharged along with her healthy baby.
