Muhammad Rafiq's Story
76-year-old Muhammad Rafiq hails from Multan and has been helping passengers reach their destinations on his Rickshaw for some time now. But now, the one who used to guide others is suffering from a condition that can lead to his own eyesight loss. Muhammad Rafiq suffers from a cataract in his left eye. The condition has worsened over the last few months so much that Muhammad Rafiq hasn’t been able to drive the Rickshaw anymore because of the visual impairment he is in because of this cataract. And the fact that the daily income of 400-500 PKR which Mr Rafiq was earning through his rickshaw has disappeared from the system does little to improve mood.
It is not as if all hope is lost for Mr Rafiq. A surgical procedure called left phacoemulsification can certainly resolve the issue here. It is also the treatment which Muhammad Rafiq has been advised as well. The natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens in this procedure. The only reason why Muhammad Rafiq hasn’t gone for this surgical procedure is the unavailability of the required funds.
“Even when I was working every day, all I could earn was a slim amount of 500 PKR per day. The house rent alone costs me 6,000 PKR. These days, it is my son who is toiling hard for the family as I keep thinking about one option that can still save my vision”
In case you haven’t cracked it, Mr Farooq is talking about Transparent Hands. Yes, we have decided to help Muhammad Rafiq in having the surgery that saves his vision. But we can’t do this alone. We need your help. You know enough, what is stopping you from donating to Mr Rafiq’s left phacoemulsification NOW!
