Muhammad Waqas's Story
“I miss living a normal life. I miss playing cricket with my friends. I wish I could also live a normal life like other boys my age, but I have to wait until I undergo heart surgery. I often see my mother crying when she sees me like this. She has already lost one son. It breaks her heart to see me like this. The doctors told me I’ll be fine soon after surgery, but my parents don’t have money to treat me.” – Muhammad Waqas
25-year-old Ahmad is suffering from a congenital heart condition (Coarctation of Aorta – narrowing of major blood vessels coming out of heart) by birth. He was diagnosed with this disease a few months ago when he complained of severe chest pain and shortness of breath. When taken to a government hospital, the doctors diagnosed him with high blood pressure and referred him to cardiac hospital. The doctor’s at this hospital did an angiography and diagnosed him. The doctor then advised his parents to prepare him for a coarctation of the aorta stenting since Muhammad Waqas is at risk of losing his life.
His poor father is unable to afford his treatment. He works with Muhammad Waqas as a welder at a shop and earns around PKR 20000 every month. Muhammad Waqas, however had to quit his job due to his heart condition. His parents cannot bear another loss of a son since his elder brother lost his battle to cancer 2-3 years ago. They are now a family of 5 people living in a rented house.
They approached various hospitals for help and that’s when they came to know about Transparent Hands.
“We don’t have any friends or relatives who could help us. They all are fighting for their own survival because of poverty. We cannot afford to lose another child at any cost. Please help us save Muhammad Waqas.” – Muhammad Waqas’s mother

Muhammad Waqas's Story
Muhammad Waqas, aged 25 years, was suffering from a febrile illness and took a routine physical examination for it. The examination revealed abnormally high blood pressure for someone as young as Waqas. The physician referred him to a cardiologist for detailed evaluation. Waqas’s angiography was performed and he was diagnosed with coarctation of the aorta (COA). In this condition, the major blood vessel carrying blood away from the heart to the body called aorta narrows down. The cardiologist recommended COA stenting for this defect. For this reason, Waqas was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital Lahore and the procedure was performed by Dr. Masood Sadiq on 11.02.2021. He stayed in the hospital for one day and was discharged in a stable condition. Waqas’s overall health has improved a great deal since the procedure was performed.
