Nageena Parveen's Story
Nageena Parveen, 25 years old, is suffering from multinodular goiter for the past 2 years. Initially, the swelling in her thyroid was small but recently, it has expanded causing uncomfortable symptoms. She feels difficulty in breathing while lying down. She has experienced weight loss and is fatigued most of the time.
“I have 2 children, all under the age of 5. They need their mother’s attention but these days, because of my thyroid condition, I am so tired all the time that I cannot tend to them properly. I hate that I am forced to neglect my children because of my illness.”- Nageena Bibi talking to TH.
Nageena Parveen went to many local hospitals for treatment but didn’t find permanent relief. She even sought help from spiritual healers which was of no help either. As a last resort, she visited a private hospital and the doctors have advised surgery- a subtotal thyroidectomy but her husband is not financially stable enough to pay for the costs. He relies on daily wages and earns about 10,000 PKR a month and has two small children to support, along with his wife.

Nageena Parveen's Story
Nageena Parveen, 25 years old, had a lump in the front of her neck for the past two years. On medical consultation, she was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter and was advised a subtotal thyroidectomy. For this purpose, she was admitted in Lahore Care Hospital and the surgery was performed by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 01.12.2020. Her subtotal thyroidectomy was done in which thyroid gland was removed except for a small part that was left to preserve the thyroid function. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. She is slowly recovering from her surgery.
