Nasreen Iqbal's Story

Around 9 months ago, Nasreen, aged 42, was homebound on a motorcycle with her husband when she had a terrible accident. Her scarf got stuck in the vehicle’s wheel and resulted in a road crash. Her husband suffered minor scratches but Nasreen herself sustained heavy damage to her left leg. She was shifted to the emergency department of a nearby hospital whose staff treated the pain with medication but refused to provide proper fixation treatment to her leg because of her inability to pay.

Nasreen’s husband borrowed money from his friends so she could have her surgery at a private hospital. Just four months following the surgery, her pain resurfaced and when she visited the hospital again, her x-ray revealed that the bones in her leg are not united. She is actually presenting with a non-union of her left tibia and fibula.

“My husband and I cannot afford an operation a second time now. We are still paying off the loan we took for the previous one and it will probably be a few years before we have paid it off in full.” – Nasreen

On top of the debt that they have to pay off, this couple has 4 small children to look after on just a salary of 12,000 PKR that Nasreen’s husband earns each month as a food vendor.

Nasreen Iqbal's Story

Nasreen Iqbal, 32 years old, was in a terrible road accident. Her diagnosis revealed that her left tibia and fibula were fractured and she needed treatment to fix her leg. She developed Infected nonunion of her tibia and fibula and was advised to get an Ilizarov fixator application. Her surgery was conducted in Lahore Care Hospital on 09-07-20 by Dr. Abdul Latif. The nail in her leg was removed and an llizarov fixator was applied to fix her bones. She was admitted in the hospital for 4 days and was discharged later in a satisfactory condition.
