Noreen Nuzhat's Story
Noreen Nuzhat is a 24-year old female from the Swat region of the country. Currently, she is a resident of Centre Kaloni, Bughdada, Street no 16, Mardan, K.P.K. You must be wondering, why are we talking about Noreen? Well, she is seven months pregnant as we write these lines. In about two months, she is expected to deliver the baby through C-section. For some, a surgical procedure such as C-section falls under the category of normal & necessary. For the tribe of men& women, Noreen belongs to, these measures are costly & not on.
The phase of pregnancy in which Noreen right now demands that the mother should be relaxed and calm all the time. Tension is toxic for the unborn baby. But Noreen cannot have the luxury of peace of mind. In Noreen’s own words:
”Oh to be expecting a child without any looming burdens! My in-laws and I make a five-membered family. We live in a 4-marla house and that is all we have. You see, my husband is out of employment because of the lockdowns enforced by the government because of COVID-19. Provided luck favours us, the maximum money that can find its way into our house is 10,000 PKR/ month!”
We cannot expect that a daily wager can manage the costs of an expensive surgical procedure such as C-section. No, it is us, the society, who have to come forward and help Noreen. How can we do that? Noreen Nuzhat's Story
Noreen Nuzhat, 24 years old, was advised a lower segment Caesarean section by her gynaecologist for her second pregnancy. She was admitted in Ahmed Medical Complex and the procedure was performed by Dr. Nuzhat Jahangir on 06.10.2020. Noreen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. Both, Noreen and her baby are in perfect health.
