Radi Gul's Story

“I feel hopeless and depressed. Anyone would if they had to live with constant pain, if they couldn’t walk around and had to deal with extreme poverty on top of all that. Sometimes, it feels like the only way out for me is to be taken away by God but then I think of my family, who needs me to look after them. I hope that by some miracle, I can use my legs again. I miss walking around, I miss feeling healthy in my body, I miss looking after my children. I feel like my whole life has come to a standstill.” – Radi Gul

Radi Gul, 65 years old, has a history of severe pain in the neck, radiating to the left side of the body followed by weakness of the left leg and, since the past 14 months, weakness of the right leg as well. He visited a neurosurgery clinic in Mardan, where an MRI of his spine was carried out and he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. He was then referred to the neurosurgery department of a local hospital in Lahore for surgery. Radi Gul remained admitted there twice but both times, his surgery was delayed without explanation. Without treatment, his condition started deteriorating even more; he started experiencing a loss of sensation in his lower body, urinary retention, and constipation. Now, his condition has worsened to the point that he has become paraplegic and has to use a urine bag.

Radi Gul was a security guard by profession in the past but he lost his job due to his condition. He is living in a small house with 9 of his family members, all of whom are dependent on him. Several of his other family members live separately, but they are not in a position to lend him a hand. Radi Gul and his family were extremely poor even before he lost his job. Now, they have no one to provide for them.

Radi Gul's Story

Radi Gul, 65 years old, was suffering from lower back pain radiating to the right leg, associated with numbness and paraesthesia. He was diagnosed with (L3-L5) PIVD and severe stenosis. He was advised surgery for this condition. He was admitted by Transparent Hands in Lahore Care Hospital and his surgery was performed by Dr. Abrar Khan on 15-07-20. His laminectomy was done. He stayed for 5 days and was discharged pain-free and in a stable condition.
