Rashida Rafique's Story

Rashida Rafique, 35 years old, is currently pregnant with her 3rd child. She has had two sons before this but unfortunately, one of them passed away at the age of 11 months due to pneumonia. In a few months’ time, if all goes well, Rashida is scheduled to deliver her baby through a C-section but she is facing trouble arranging for the medical costs of the operation.

Rashida’s husband looks after a farm belonging to a landlord in their village. This position earns him an average of 8000 PKR per month. Out of this, 3500 PKR is spent just on rent. Having lived with such limited means all their married life, Rashida and her husband faced difficulties arranging for her earlier operations as well.

“My father-in-law, may he rest in peace, offered to pay for both the surgeries. We were extremely relieved to have his support. He passed away recently and we feel like we have lost the only person watching over us. Now we have no one.” – Rashida
