Roubina Akhtar's Story

34-year-old Roubina Akhtar is a doting mother of two and a housewife. Her entire house depends on her for every single thing as mothers are usually the nucleus of the family. She got polio at a very young age but never let it dampen her spirits. She loves taking care of her children and home. However, the daily household chores that she usually enjoyed doing became a struggle when she started experiencing frequent episodes of abdominal pain. She ignored the pain for a long time but gradually the abdominal pain became unbearable. She also felt bloated and lost her appetite. Ultimately, she had to visit a doctor. On the initial visit, after complete examination and review of test reports, the doctor diagnosed her condition as cholelithiasis which refers to formation of gallstones. He prescribed some pain relief medicines for her. These medicines did provide temporary respite and she spent seven to eight months in hopes of getting better without having to go to the hospital again. But, her condition deteriorated and she had to revisit the doctor. This time, the doctor conducted complete tests and recommended a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for her, as a last resort. This surgery is performed for the removal of gall bladder.

Roubina wanted to have the surgery immediately but she could not afford it. Her husband is a labourer and earns only PKR 500 per day. They hardly have enough money to arrange for two meals a day for the entire family. Paying for a surgery, like this one, is out of question.

Roubina Akhtar's Story

Roubina Akhtar, 34 years old, experienced persistent pain in the right side of the upper abdomen and was diagnosed with cholelithiasis (gallstones). She was recommended a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. She was admitted in Bakhtawar Amin Trust Hospital, Multan and was operated by Dr. Shabbir Ahmad on 15.12.2020. Rubina’s gallbladder containing stones was successfully removed. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. She has resumed her normal daily life activities.
