Sadar Nawaz's Story

“I had made a good life for myself abroad. I earned well, was able to financially help my family, and had great friends. Then, everything changed in the blink of an eye. Now I am jobless and have no resources. I can’t help myself or my family.” – Sadar Nawaz

Sadar Nawaz, 28 years old, experienced a back injury while lifting a very heavy object about a year ago. Ever since the accident, he has been suffering from severe low backache radiating to his right leg, as well as numbness. He has been diagnosed with a prolapsed intervertebral disc with severe stenosis. Doctors have advised him spine surgery: laminectomy, foraminotomy, and discectomy.

Sadar worked as a laborer in Saudi Arabia previously and used to send money home to support his family. After his accident, he was let go from his job and had to return to Pakistan. He has been unable to work ever since, depending instead on his father and two brothers. His father cultivates land for a landlord in their village. In return, the landlord allows him and his family to occupy a small cottage with limited electricity and water privileges. Sadar’s brothers work as daily wagers and collectively earn around 20,000 PKR for their family of ten members.

Sadar Nawaz, 28 years old, was suffering from lower back pain radiating to the right leg and associated numbness and paresthesia. He was diagnosed with L5-S1 right paracentral PIVD with severe stenosis and was advised laminectomy, discectomy, and multiple foraminotomy surgeries. He was admitted by Transparent Hands in Lahore Care Hospital, Lahore, for 3 days. The surgeries were performed by Dr. Abrar Khan on 10-06-20 and Sadar was discharged in a stable condition.
