Said Rehman's Story

“I don’t want to be a burden for my children. I don’t want to become a liability for them. I am already financially dependent on them; I don’t want to become physically dependent on them as well. I hope and pray that I don’t become bedridden because of my heart condition.”Said Rehman

Said Rehman, 68 years of age, has been suffering from ischemic heart disease which is a condition of recurring chest pain that occurs when a part of the heart does not receive enough blood. He experienced sudden breathlessness and was directly taken to the emergency with help from the District Headquarter Hospital in Mardan. The pain became continuous and worsened, so the doctors shifted him to Sardar Memorial Hospital in Swabi. The cardiologist on-call rushed to the hospital and started Said’s treatment.

After conducting an examination, they ran a few tests such as the ECG and ECHO. Once the results were in, the doctor recommended coronary angiography, so his heart condition could be fully investigated and treated.

Disheartened Said Rehman knew that he wouldn’t be able to afford the cost of the procedure or the medicines due to his financial situation and had given up hope. Due to his age and heart condition, he stopped working a while back and relied on his son, who worked as a labourer and earned PKR 12,000 a month which was barely enough to feed his own family. At this point Said felt as if he was a burden for his own son. They are a family of 5 who live in an 8 marla house which was given to them by their grandparents.

The seemingly unfortunate situation turned into a favourable one for Said Rehman when someone told him about Transparent Hands and the fact that they would help him get his procedure done for free. Without wasting any time, they visited the Transparent Hands office in Mardan. The team over there referred them to the nearest Transparent Hands office which was located in Swabi due to the fact that they didn’t have a heart specialist.

Said Rehman's Story

Said Rehman, 68 years old, suffered from severe chest pain for two weeks so he had to visit a local hospital. After running a few initial tests, he was advised a coronary angiography by the cardiologist to assess the condition of the blood flow to his heart. For this purpose, he was admitted in Muhammad Sardar Khan Memorial Hospital and the procedure was performed by Dr. Umar Ibrahim Paracha on 19th Oct, 2020. Arshad was discharged in a stable condition the same day. The angiography revealed that he has triple-vessel coronary artery disease and the doctor has further recommended a coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) to restore the flow of blood to his heart.

“The doctor was able to diagnose the condition of my heart. I am grateful to the donors for donating for my cardiac procedure.”- Said Rehman
