Saleema Bibi's Story

Around 3 years ago, 65-year-old Saleema Bibi started experiencing severe abdominal pain rendering her unable to perform her household chores or even sit for extended periods of time. She also formed a lump protruding from her genital tract. She visited her local hospital where she was diagnosed with uterine prolapse. Her doctor advised her to undergo surgery- a hysterectomy- to treat this condition but due to the steep surgery cost, Saleema Bibi couldn’t follow through. Now, three years have passed and Saleema’s painful symptoms including bleeding, severe pain, and vomiting are still persistent.

Saleema Bibi lives in Khanewal with her husband and one married son. She also has 4 daughters all of whom are married and living separately. She herself does not work due to her disease and old age. Her husband suffered from an attack of paralysis 15 years ago and cannot work either because his right side is immobile. Saleema and her husband depend on their son, who works in a mill, making 20,000 PKR a month. However, since he has his own family to support as well, he does not have the resources to pay for his mother’s surgery.

Saleema Bibi's Story

Saleema Bibi, 65 years old, presented with lower abdominal pain due to uterovaginal prolapse. She was advised vaginal hysterectomy. Her surgery was done on 04-06-20 at Abid Hospital, Mian Channu, by Dr. Sadaf Aqeel. She remained admitted for 3 days and was discharged in a stable condition.
