Shazia Sajid's Story

“I cannot forget how battered my body was when I was undergoing cancer treatment last time. I was irritated all the time, would randomly faint on numerous occasions, would feel nauseous and weak constantly. I don’t know how this time would be. Part of me is not ready to face this battle again but I also need to stay alive for my kids. I hope I find the strength and help I need.” – Shazia Sajid

Shazia Sajid, 47 years old, was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2008. A year after diagnosis, the right side of her breast involved with the tumor was removed and a course of chemotherapy was started right after. Following 24 weeks of chemotherapy, she underwent 13 cycles of radiation too. The entire course of treatment took a heavy toll on her body but she went into remission for almost 11 years.

In the past few months, Shazia started feeling a heaviness and pain in her left breast now. When she visited her doctor, it was discovered that her cancer has returned on the other side and she needs a second surgery for the removal of the tumor. Her decided treatment plan is Left modified radical mastectomy (MRM) for the removal of her left breast as well as a left axillary clearance to remove any remaining glands from the armpit.

Due to a lack of resources, Shazia wishes to have her surgery conducted through Transparent Hands. Her family’s monthly budget is a mere 16,000 PKR that her husband earns by running a small general store. Other than these profits earned from the shop, Shazia, her husband and three small kids have no other source of income, which is why they have reached out for help with the medical costs.

We aim to provide Shazia with help as promptly as possible. Join us in this goal and help us complete her campaign, so she can once again begin the process of recovery!
