Shehnaz Bibi's Story
Shehnaz Bibi, 43 years old, has been suffering from multinodular goiter for the past 7 years. Initially, she treated her condition with medicines and visited local healers, but she did not improve. Over time, her thyroid swelling has enlarged causing uncomfortable symptoms like difficulty in breathing while lying down, weight loss, and chronic fatigue.
“If I try to walk just to the nearby market, I get tired as if I just climbed a mountain. It’s hard to sleep too because the swelling presses down on my throat and interrupts breathing. So even though I feel exhausted, I can barely get any sleep.”- Shehnaz Bibi
After consultation with a doctor, Shehnaz Bibi has been advised surgery- a subtotal thyroidectomy-but her husband is not financially stable enough to pay the medical bills. He works as a rickshaw driver and only earns 15,000 PKR a month. With this income alone, he has to support his four small children, along with his wife. All out of options, Shehnaz, and her husband recently visited Transparent Hands to ask for assistance.

Shehnaz Bibi's Story
Shehnaz Bibi, 43 years old, had a lump in the front of her neck and she presented symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. On thorough medical consultation, she was diagnosed with toxic multinodular goiter and was recommended surgical intervention after control of her disease. For this purpose, Shehnaz was admitted in Lahore Care Hospital and her subtotal thyroidectomy was performed by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 06.01.2021. She stayed in the hospital for three days and was discharged in a stable condition. Shehnaz is slowly recovering from her major surgery.
