Sofiya Saleem's Story
Sofiya Saleem, 40 years of age, has been experiencing abdominal pain along with distention, stretch, and discomfort for the past one year. She visited her local hospital and was diagnosed with cholelithiasis, commonly known as stones in the gallbladder. It has been recommended to her to have gallbladder removal surgery for permanent relief. Without the means to have the surgery, she tried to combat her symptoms with painkillers which only worked temporarily; in recent months, her pain and discomfort have only gotten worse.
Sofya’s husband is a barber in his village and earns 8000 PKR per month from his job. With this small income, he is managing all the expenses of his family. Since he cannot afford a house of his own, he has to share a small apartment with his 2 brothers and their families. Part of his income goes towards the joint expenses of this household as well.
“There was no way for us to put together enough money so that Sofya’s surgery could be carried out. While looking for help, we came across someone who suggested to us to contact Transparent Hands and that’s what we did.” – Sofya’s husband
We are now working to have Sofya’s surgery conducted in the next few weeks and earnestly request your donations to make our efforts successful.
