Sumbal Bibi's Story

Sumbal Bibi, 23 years old, is expecting her third child and has been advised a C-section to deliver her baby because normal labor could prove complicated for her. She was able to secure appointments at local hospitals for her previous deliveries and got the operations done for free. This time, she has not been able to get an appointment due to a long waitlist and needs to arrange the money to get the procedure done privately.

“My first husband walked away from his responsibilities and divorced me. I got remarried a few years later and Shehzad has been such a huge support. He looks after my children like they are his own. I know that he does everything in his power to support us. Unfortunately, that is never enough when you are poor.”- Sumbal Bibi

Sumbal Bibi’s husband, Shehzad Masih, is a laborer who earns 8000 PKR a month. He is financially responsible for Sumbal and her two children. Since he stays with them in a joint household shared with his brothers, he also contributes to the expenditures of the joint household. Affording the expenses of Sumbal’s C-section is not possible for him on top of all his other responsibilities, which is why he has asked Transparent Hands for help.

Sumbal Bibi's Story

Sumbal Bibi, 30 years of age, was about to have her 3rd childbirth. She had emergency surgery done for previous childbirths. This time, she was advised elective surgery for poor progression of labour. Her C-section was done on 12- 03-20, in Abid Hospital, Mian Channu, by Dr. Sadaf Aqeel. She was happy to give birth to a baby girl. She stayed for three days in the hospital and was discharged along with her healthy baby.
