Waqar Hussain's Story

19-year-old Waqar Hussain is suffering from a congenital heart condition known as an atrial septal defect (ASD) – a hole in the wall that separates the top two chambers of the heart. This hole allows oxygen-rich blood to mix with oxygen-poor blood in the heart and reduces the efficiency of the circulation. In order to get better, he requires ASD closure, a cardiac procedure to close the hole.

Waqar was diagnosed with this disease only 7 months after his birth. His family took him to several hospitals in Mardan and Peshawar. Due to a lack of reference, all of the hospitals refused him free treatment and demanded steep costs for the procedure. So far, he has survived on medicines but his condition is deteriorating.

“I have constant chest pains and breathing difficulties. Even after slight exertion, I have to sit down to catch my breath. Naturally, I am unable to work or study. It is so depressing because all my young years are passing by and I still haven’t gotten to be a normal healthy teenager who can play cricket, attend college, go out with his class-mates and have fun. I just get to stay at home and rest.” – Waqar Hussain

Waqar lives with his family in their small house in a Mardan village. He has two elder brothers and one younger sister. His two elder brothers are daily wagers and his father is a security guard in a school. Together, they earn around 25,000 PKR a month to support their family’s daily expenses. By the end of the month, all their income is expended on basic sustenance.

With such a limited income, Waqar’s family cannot arrange for his surgery without your help.

Please donate to him so his cardiac procedure can be carried out at the earliest.
