Yousaf Makhan's Story

40 years old Yousaf Makhan was helping his landlord in lifting a heavy suitcase when he felt a piercing pain in the left side of his groin area. Later, he felt a bulge and swollen veins in that area. Yousaf ignored the pain for two months but due to a sudden attack of blinding pain, he went to a private clinic. There he was diagnosed with left inguinal hernia. An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, extends through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. The resulting bulge is painful, especially when the patient coughs, bends over or lifts a heavy object. The doctor at the private hospital gave him medicines for temporary relief but they did not help for long. 

Seeing the severity of his pain, the doctor advised Yousaf to get a Mesh Hernioplasty – a surgical procedure where a mesh patch is sewn over the weakened region of tissue.

Yousaf Makhan works as a gardener in different bungalows. The financial situation of Yousaf’s household is extremely turbulent. He lives in a joint family with his 5 kids and wife. With a measly income of PKR 15000 per month and 6 family members to raise, he is in no position to bear the financial stress of his surgery.
