“Day by day, my hardships are only increasing. My daughter cannot live like a normal baby and it breaks my heart when I see her in such a painful condition. I’m the only earning member of my family and I really don’t know how to pay for her treatment. I’ll never be able to forget myself if something happens to my daughter.” – Zahra’s father

Zahra Batool is a one year old playful baby girl who has suffered from Ileocaecal Intussusception resulting in intestinal obstruction. Zahra was diagnosed with this disease when she was only 4 months old and her first surgery was done in a local hospital. The doctor informed her parents that she will need another surgery to restore the passage at the normal site. After a few months, her parents visited the hospital again for her second surgery but they refused to treat her for free. Hopeless and devastated, her father visited many hospitals as well as NGOs for her treatment but all of them demanded money for her surgery.

Zahra’s father is a daily wage laborer who earns around 400 PKR a day. He is responsible for the living of not only his wife and 2 children, but also 5 other members of the family living in the same house. When her father failed to get any help for her treatment, an old patient from Transparent Hands advised him to contact this organization for free surgery.
