Zareena Bibi's Story
“I thought my condition was getting better but apparently, the medicines I was taking were just managing the symptoms. The doctor said my infection has gotten much worse. The pain is unbearable now. In the past few days, I have not been able to attend to my children or my house. I have barely managed to get up from the bed. Even coming to Transparent Hands to get my case registered took so much effort. I hope somebody sends help soon so I can be free of this pain.” – Zareena Bibi
Zareena Bibi, 31 years old, had been suffering from chronic appendicitis for the past 6 months. During this time, she presented with symptoms such as abdominal pain and nausea, for which she took over the counter medication. In the past few days, however, the symptoms have started getting much worse. Her doctor has determined that her appendicitis has now progressed to the acute stage and requires immediate surgical intervention- an appendectomy to remove the appendix. Otherwise, her infection can have much more serious consequences.
Zareena Bibi’s husband, Muhammad Ikram, is a toy seller and earns 400-500 PKR a day. This amounts to 12,000-15,000 PKR a month. With this, he has to manage the monthly household expenses of his family of five, the school fees of his two elder sons, a monthly rent of 3000 PKR for the small house that they occupy and any other miscellaneous expenditures. Zareena Bibi’s treatment is unaffordable for him, which is why he has asked Transparent Hands for help.
With urgent support from you, Zareena Bibi’s appendectomy can be successfully conducted before her infection becomes life-threatening.
