Zareena Violet's Story

Around 11 years ago, Zareena Violet, now 61-years-of-age, was diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) of both her knees. It affected her knee joints, causing pain and stiffness in her right and left knee. She took medication and a course of injections prescribed by a local hospital but her knee only showed very slight improvement. Over the last decade, her condition has generally worsened and greatly compromised her mobility. She has been advised to undergo total knee replacement, as this is the only way to get back the use of her legs.

While Zareena has a medical solution available to her, she cannot opt for it due to the high costs of the surgery. Her husband has been out of work for two years due to an unfortunate accident that irreversibly hurt his arm. Zareena cannot work either due to her knee pain. Out of her 5 children, one is married and lives separately, and the other four still live with her. Her eldest daughter bears the financial responsibility of the entire family by working at a beauty parlor. This family has to meet all their monthly expenses, including 10,000 PKR rent, with just a small paycheck of 20,000 PKR/month.

Transparent Hands helped Zareena get her total knee replacement surgery for the right knee. Now, she has come to us for the second time to get her total knee replacement surgery done for her left knee.

Zareena Violet's Story

Zareena Violet, aged 61 years, a resident of Hafiz Abad, was suffering from progressive osteoarthritis of both knee joints for the last 11 years. She is currently unable to walk and bend her knees. Her right total knee replacement was successfully done a few months ago with the assistance of Transparent Hands. After she recovered from the previous surgery, the doctor advised her to undergo left total knee replacement. For this purpose, she was admitted to PSRD where her surgery was performed by Dr. Saleem Bashir on 03.03.2021. He stayed in the hospital for five days and was discharged in a stable condition.
