Gulistan Wazeer, a 34-year-old woman from Hyderabad, has been experiencing recurrent episodes of intense abdominal pain for the past three years. The pain, which begins in the upper right side of her abdomen, worsens particularly after consuming fatty foods. Alongside the discomfort, she experiences frequent indigestion and nausea, making it difficult for her to enjoy meals and carry out daily tasks.Worried about her persistent condition, Gulistan visited a local hospital for a medical consultation. After a thorough check-up and necessary diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed her with Cholelithiasis—a condition where hard stones form in the gallbladder. To treat her condition and relieve her from the ongoing discomfort, the doctor has recommended a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s means.
If left untreated, her condition will worsen. It may possibly lead to complications such as gallbladder infection, bile duct blockage, or even inflammation of the pancreas.
Gulistan lives with her husband and two children in a modest mud house in Hyderabad. Her husband works as a laborer and earns only PKR 20,000 per month, which barely covers their basic household needs.
