Urooj Naz's Story

Urooj Naz, a 31-year-old woman from Karachi, has been experiencing pain due to a lump in her umbilical region for the past three years. Over time, the lump has increased in size and become more painful, severely affecting her daily life. Even simple household chores have turned into a struggle, and she faces difficulty taking care of her children and managing routine tasks. Concerned about her worsening condition, she visited a nearby hospital. After a detailed examination, the doctor diagnosed her with a Paraumbilical Hernia, a protrusion of tissue through a defect in the abdominal wall near the belly button. To relieve her pain and prevent complications, the doctor advised her to undergo mesh repair (hernioplasty).

If Urooj does not undergo timely surgery, her condition can worsen. The hernia may enlarge further, become more painful, or even result in complications like strangulation, which may cause serious health risks.

Unfortunately, the cost of this surgery is far beyond what Urooj and her family can afford. Urooj lives in a modest rented house with her husband and five children, four of whom are in school. Her husband works with a company, earning only PKR 32,000 per month. From this limited income, they must pay a house rent of PKR 10,000 and utility bills of PKR 3,000. Moreover, they are burdened with a heavy loan of PKR 100,000. With these overwhelming expenses, arranging money for Urooj’s surgery is impossible for them.

Urooj said with a heavy heart:

“My days are filled with pain, and I can no longer take care of my children like I used to. We simply can’t afford the surgery that can ease my suffering. I humbly ask you to please help me get this treatment so I can live a normal life again.”
