Enable Muhammad Dawood to Hear the Sounds Around Him
Muhammad Dawood's Story
Muhammad Dawood, a 1-year-old boy from Lahore, has been suffering from deafness since birth. His parents are heartbroken to see him in this condition as he has never heard his mother’s comforting voice and the laughter of other children. Upon noticing his unresponsiveness to sounds, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who conducted some medical tests and diagnosed Dawood with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. To open the door of the world of sounds for him, the doctor advised cochlear implant surgery. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond his family’s financial reach.
The sooner Dawood receives the cochlear implant, the better his chances of speech and language development which are necessary at his age. If he doesn’t undergo the surgery on time, he might not be able to develop the ability to hear and speak.
Dawood lives in a small rented house with his parents and one sibling. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, is an employee at a private company and earns just PKR 45000 per month. This monthly income is insufficient to cover PKR 25000 for house rent, and the monthly utility bills of PKR 4000. Additionally, they need to pay back a significant loan of PKR 150,000. Dawood’s family’s financial situation is stretched thin and they simply can’t afford the costly surgery. During this dark moment, Dawood‘s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help. His parents said with teary eyes:
“Dawood is our innocent child. It’s painful to see him try to hear. Please help our son in undergoing the surgery.”

Muhammad Dawood's Story
Muhammad Dawood, a one-year-old boy from Lahore, was unable to hear the sounds around him. Dawood was falling behind in speech and language development which was important at his age. He couldn’t hear and speak like other children of his age. His parents took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who performed some medical tests and diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. To enable him to hear and speak, the doctor advised cochlear implant surgery. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond his family’s financial reach.
Dawood lived in a small rented house with his parents and one sibling. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, was an employee at a private company. His monthly income was insufficient to pay for house rent, utility bills as well as groceries. Dawood’s family's financial situation was stretched thin and they simply couldn’t afford the costly surgery. During this time of need, Dawood‘s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us to register his case. The generosity of our donors enabled us to arrange surgery for Dawood at a reputable hospital on our panel.
On 2nd October 2024, Dawood was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. His surgery was scheduled for the following day, 3rd October 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed carefully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. Dawood was hospitalized for two days and received post-operative care. On 4th October 2024, Dawood was discharged in satisfactory condition from the hospital.
The external component of the cochlear implant was installed six weeks after the surgery. Now, Dawood is in his rehabilitation process and he receives speech therapy sessions for it. Dawood’s family expressed their happiness as follows:
“Dawood is our beloved child and watching him respond to the sounds around him comforts us a lot. We never supposed that he would ever be able to hear us but you turned this distant dream into reality. Thanks a lot for being there for us.”
This surgery has enabled Dawood to have a future filled with endless possibilities. Dawood can now explore the world fully and this is all made possible just because of you.
