Essa Khan's Story

Essa Khan, a three-year-old resident of Lahore, has been suffering from a congenital heart disease. He has been experiencing symptoms of palpitation and breathlessness since birth. Essa’s parents noticed that he fell sick too often. Upon consultation, the doctor advised him to undergo a number of diagnostic tests to determine his illness. Essa’s reports revealed that he is suffering from Tetralogy of Fallot and double outlet right ventricle (DORV). Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a group of four congenital heart defects. The doctor then advised him to undergo – Open Heart Surgery.

His open heart surgery was done through the assistance of Transparent Hands back in January, 2021 and BT Shunt was placed to improve his health. The doctor advised him for a follow up angiography and definitive surgery for Total correction of TOF. The goal of this surgery is to repair the defects of Tetralogy of Fallot so the heart can work as normally as possible. Repairing the defects can greatly improve a child’s health and quality of life.

Essa’s father is a daily wager and hardly manages to earn PKR 15,000 per month. With this income, it is impossible for Essa’s parents to afford the hefty cost of this procedure. Essa’s sorrowed father expressed his feelings in the following words:

“My financial conditions leave me with no options. A child is the biggest blessing one can have but seeing them suffer is the greatest curse. My son deserves a chance at life. Please save him. ”

Essa Khan's Story

Three-year-old, Essa Khan, a resident of Lahore, had been enduring difficulty in breathing since birth. Upon consultation, he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. The doctor advised him to undergo Open-heart surgery for Total Correction. Essa had previously undergone BT shunt placement with the help of Transparent Hands back in 2021. Since Essa's parents could not afford the cost of their son’s surgery, they registered his case with Transparent Hands. We sent him to Ittefaq Hospital to get his surgery done by Dr. Muhammad Asim Khan on 27-01-2022. He stayed in the hospital for five days and was discharged in a satisfactory condition.
