Fund Reema Saleem’s Cholecystectomy
Reema Saleem's Story
Reema Saleem, a resilient 32-year-old resident of Karachi, has been enduring excruciating pain in her right upper abdomen for the past year. The agony is accompanied by bouts of nausea and vomiting, particularly after consuming fatty meals. Seeking medical advice, Reema was diagnosed with cholelithiasis—an ailment characterised by the formation of gallstones. The doctor has recommended an urgent laparoscopic cholecystectomy to alleviate her pain and restore her quality of life.
She is a devoted housewife and the mother of one beloved child. Her husband is the sole earner of the family, working as a daily wage laborer. With a monthly income of just PKR 22,000, their resources are stretched thin. They reside in a rented house in Karachi, with a limited space of two marlas, comprising only two rooms. Balancing their financial responsibilities, they also face the burdensome weight of a loan payable amounting to PKR 30,000. Despite their best efforts, Reema’s husband finds it impossible to bear the additional expenses of her necessary surgery.
Reema’s voice trembles as she shares her heartfelt plea:
“The constant pain has taken a toll on my daily life, leaving me unable to fulfill my responsibilities as a wife and mother. However, the financial strain makes it seem impossible to undergo the much-needed surgery. We struggle to meet our basic needs. I appeal to your kindness and generosity to help me regain my health and live a pain-free life.”

Reema Saleem's Story
Reema Saleem, a 32-year-old woman from Karachi, was suffering from right upper abdominal pain for one year. She was also suffering from nausea, vomiting, and intolerance to fatty meals. She went to a doctor who, after running some diagnostic tests and an ultrasound scan, diagnosed her with Cholelithiasis/Gallstones. Reema just got temporary relief after receiving symptomatic treatment from a local hospital. Later, she consulted with another doctor who recommended Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, a surgery to remove the gallbladder. Reema got anxious as she was unable to afford the costly surgery.
Reema is a housewife and lives in a two-room rented house with her husband and child. Her husband works to the point of exhaustion as a daily wage laborer. However, his meager monthly income hardly covers the house rent and living expenses.
In such a challenging time, Reema contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help. Moved by her plea and the need for the surgery we registered her case.
On 23rd May 2024, Reema Saleem was admitted to Murshid Hospital Karachi. An experienced surgeon, Dr. Khalid Shafiq performed her Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. She was discharged in stable condition on 24th May 2024.
The surgery went smoothly and Reema’s heart was filled with joy and relief. Reema shared her emotions as follows:
“I can’t find the words to express my gratitude. You helped me get rid of the constant sharp pain and discomfort. I am extremely thankful for all the support. You have changed my life.”
The success of this surgery has enabled her to live a pain-free life. Now, she can manage her household tasks, care for her child, and eat anything without the fear of having recurrent episodes of nausea or vomiting. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the donors who made this life-changing surgery possible. Your support has given Reema a future filled with hope and determination.
