Hashim’s family resides in a modest one-room rented house in Islamabad, comprising his parents and one sibling. His father is the sole breadwinner, earning a monthly income of only PKR 20,000. After paying the house rent of PKR 3,000, utility bills of PKR 1,000, and managing grocery and daily expenses, there is no financial room for saving up for the expensive cochlear implant surgery that Hashim urgently requires. Syed Muhammad Hashim Shah, a one-year-old boy from Islamabad, lives in a silent world due to sensorineural hearing loss. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, his doctors have recommended a cochlear implant surgery—a procedure that could profoundly change his life.

Faced with the daunting cost of the surgery, Hashim's family turned to Transparent Hands, hoping to find financial support to break through the silence surrounding Hashim. Moved by their story, donors from all walks of life stepped forward to help.

Hashim's transformative journey began at GIMS Hospital in Gambat, where on March 24, 2024, he underwent surgery by Dr. Maqbool, who expertly fitted the internal component of the cochlear implant. Merely two days after the procedure, Hashim was able to leave the hospital, his family's hope restored by the success of the surgery.

Within the following six weeks, Hashim received the external component of his cochlear implant. He also began attending regular speech therapy sessions, crucial for helping him make sense of the new sounds he was beginning to experience. These sessions are key to his auditory and speech development, enabling him to learn to communicate effectively.

The successful installation of Hashim's cochlear implant opens up a myriad of possibilities for his future. No longer bound by the barriers of hearing loss, Hashim can now grow up enjoying the full range of human experiences—from the joy of music to the voices of his loved ones.
