Asfand, a delightful two-year-old boy from Mehrub Pur, has known a world of silence since birth. Despite his charming name, it saddens his loved ones that he cannot respond when called or recognize the loving voices of his parents. Tragically, the cost of the cochlear implant surgery that can restore his hearing is beyond the financial means of his parents. Ever since Asfand was a year old, his parents noticed that he did not react to the sounds around him. Concerned for his well-being, they took him to the local hospital, where he underwent a series of tests. Following consultations with medical professionals, he was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss. The doctors recommended cochlear implant surgery as the most effective solution. A cochlear implant is a remarkable electronic device that emits electrical signals to stimulate the cochlear nerve responsible for hearing. Comprising both internal and external components, the implant captures sounds using a microphone, processes them, and transmits them to the inner part of the ear implant.

Asfand lives with his parents and a sibling in Mehrub Pur. His father, who earns a modest income of PKR 15,000 per month from his private job, struggles to make ends meet. Given his limited financial resources, he is unable to afford the cost of the surgery that could transform Asfand’s life. With a heavy heart, he expressed his concerns, saying:
